Quite Confused? Not so

I’m a guy, and I feel attracted with my opposite sex. What really bothers me is that I also feel something towards my guy best friend… as if there’s… you know… LOVE. I don’t wanna feel like this.

A guy in love with a girl is normal. A guy attracted to another guy is now already accepted, but what if a guy is attracted not only to a guy, but also to a girl? Would that make a difference?

No. These people are called bisexuals. They are under the umbrella of the bigger community called Lesbian, Gay, Bisexuals, and Transgenders (LGBT). Bisexuals tend to have sexual attractions not only to his or her opposite sex but also to the same sex. They tend to be judged because of the argument that a person cannot be attracted to two sexualities. He must choose one instead.

Bisexuality is just a phase, some say. Because of puberty, people tend to have confusion that this is just about curiosity and it will just go by. Teenagers are interested on their emotions, so they tend to play with these things, which, in reality, is not really a sign of bisexuality. Bisexuality is a sexual orientation. You cannot really change it until you die. Seriously.

Another misconception faced by these people is that in order for them to be bisexual, they really need to have a sort of 50-50 attraction towards the two sexualities. Well, as this paragraph stated, that is just a misconception. Some bisexuals are only attracted to 5% of one gender, and 60% of the other - you don't need to be 50/50 or have those add up to 100. And some bisexuals believe that thinking in terms of two genders is restrictive.

Well, the list does not really end there. Bisexuality is not about there being “two sexes”. It is not also being greedy. Fluidity is not what it really meant. In order to be bisexual, you do not need to date the two genders. Lastly, they are not carrier of diseases. They are just victim of those people who have nothing to do with their lives.

Always remember that bisexuals also have hearts and emotions. Together, let us stop bullying towards bisexuals.

The Common and The Standard

I’m a guy, and I love girls. I think there’s nothing wrong with that.

It may be the majority of all the sexual orientations. Some may say that it is the considered normal. Everyone should be like them.

Heterosexuals. Well, if you are thinking that you are only attracted to your opposite sex, you have this kind of sexual orientation. There is nothing to talk about much in this sexual orientation, but you are the ones who really need to have much more talk when it comes to LGBT 101. They seem to have many misconceptions on what LGBTs are.

They seem to have the biggest number of people who have some grudge towards people who belong beyond the gender continuum. Some (but not all), seem to feel that they are superior because they are the society’s normal sexual orientation. This is shown in the high number of cases of discrimination not only in schools but also in work place. This leads to some LGBT people to have lost their self-confidence.

Heterosexuals are really normal, though. They do not have anything to argue about. They do not need to feel that they are inferior just to let the people know that they also have their rights.

They are the standards of society. Well, they really need a very a tough job of maintaining it though.

Looking Beyond the Status Quo: An Overview

Homosexuals. Gays. Queers. LGBT. Two-spirit. Same-sex attracted. Bisexuals. Pansexuals.

These are the terms used to associate with the so-called third gender. Third gender is considered to be those people who have sexual attractions and behaviors to the same sex (homosexuals), both sexes, such as men or women (bisexuals), or to all sexes (pansexual). Generally speaking, they are said to be taboos because they do not the norms of the society, which suggests that females are ONLY meant for males, and vice versa. Some says that they are the reasons of the disasters that are currently happening nowadays because God punishes them for the misconducts. However, some consider them as Gods. In India, the third gender is respected because they are said to be the counterpart of their God Vishnu when he has gone to the earth before.

The essence of masculinity and femininity is a deep-seated personal sense called gender identity. Gender identity disorder is present if a person’s physical gender is not consisted with his/her sense of identity. People with this disorder feel trapped in a body of the wrong sex.

According to the psychologist’s nature versus nurture, homosexuality is said to be genetically-inherited if we are talking about nature. On the other perspective, the nurture believes that homosexuality could be developed through the environment in which one is exposed to. Furthermore, there is no clear explanation about the said topic. The root cause of homosexuality is still an issue in the field of psychology. They even theorized that there is another stage which is in accordance with this, the so-called gender identity disorder.

On the other hand, the church has its own stand. They said that there are only two genders: male and female. It is because the Bible says that we should go to the world and multiply. It is also promoting heterosexual relationships in the sense that only man and woman are permitted to have marital relations. This is also associated with what is stated above.

In reality, the LGBT community still feels the prevailing discrimination from the society. This is widely shown the cases of bullying, human trafficking, and racial insults and among others. People in the said sexual orientations are said to be taboo because it does not follow the norms of either the psychological or biblical point-of-view.

We should be taking into considerations some factors in judging these people. It is a matter of choice. Some may say that this is not what they want, but their heart contradicts this.

Homosexuality is not disgusting, society is.
